Diagnostic Trouble Code
P0016 — Crankshaft/Camshaft Timing Correlation
Crankshaft/Camshaft Timing Correlation
Definition
The crankshaft and camshaft position sensors are reporting timing values that do not correlate within the expected range. This indicates the engine's mechanical timing may be off, or a sensor is providing inaccurate data.
Common Causes
- Stretched or jumped timing chain/belt
- Worn timing chain tensioner or guides
- Faulty camshaft or crankshaft position sensor
- Oil control valve (VVT solenoid) malfunction
- Low engine oil level or incorrect viscosity
