Mass Air Flow Sensor Range/Performance
Definition
The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is reporting values outside the expected range for the current engine operating conditions. The MAF sensor measures the volume and density of air entering the engine, which the ECM uses to calculate fuel injection timing and quantity.
Common Causes
- Dirty or contaminated MAF sensor element
- Air leaks in the intake tract (cracked hose, loose clamp)
- Faulty MAF sensor
- Clogged or restrictive air filter
- Exhaust leak near the O2 sensor affecting fuel trim calculations
