Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction
Definition
The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is not providing a signal to the ECM. The VSS is critical for speedometer operation, transmission shift strategy, cruise control, and ABS function.
Common Causes
- Faulty vehicle speed sensor
- Damaged wiring or connector
- Faulty instrument cluster (on vehicles where the cluster relays VSS)
- Transmission output shaft sensor failure
