Idle Air Control System RPM Higher Than Expected
Definition
The engine idle speed is higher than the ECM's expected target RPM. The ECM is attempting to lower idle speed but cannot achieve the target.
Common Causes
- Vacuum leak (intake hose, PCV valve, brake booster)
- Faulty idle air control valve (stuck open)
- Dirty throttle body allowing excess air
- Intake manifold gasket leak
