Air Injection System

The air injection system injects air into the exhaust stream. The purpose is to promote further oxidation of the exhaust, namely the HC and CO emissions. A common misconception is that the injected air just dilutes the exhaust. In fact, it oxidizes HC and CO into H2O and CO2. In many modern vehicles, the air injection system operates only during warm-up.
