Glossary Term
Combustion Chamber
An area inside the engine where the air-fuel mixture is drawn into, compressed, and then burned (combustion) to produce power to propel the vehicle. If the combustion chamber has accumulated carbon deposits, high NOx emissions may result.

Head gasket sniff test: detecting exhaust gases in the radiator coolant. A failed head gasket allows combustion gases to leak between the combustion chamber and the cooling system.

Intake valve carbon buildup. Carbon deposits on intake valves restrict airflow into the combustion chamber, reducing efficiency and causing misfires.

Intake valve after walnut blast cleaning. Removing carbon deposits restores proper airflow into the combustion chamber.
