Malfunction Indicator Lamp

An illuminated MIL is your vehicle's way of telling you it has found a problem related to the emissions control or engine management systems. Manufacturers can only use the MIL for indication of emission-related faults, not for maintenance reminders or mileage intervals. Generally, the OBD system illuminates the MIL after the same fault has been found in two different driving cycles.
