The engine or transmission control module has detected a fault that reduces power output. The vehicle enters a limp mode to protect the drivetrain. This is BMW's umbrella warning for a wide range of engine and transmission faults.

- Ignition coil or spark plug failure
- High-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) degradation
- Turbocharger wastegate actuator fault
- Injector circuit malfunction
- VANOS solenoid failure
- Transmission mechatronic unit fault
Immediate Action
Reduce speed. Do not exceed 3,000 RPM. Schedule diagnostic service promptly. If the vehicle shudders or loses power completely, pull over safely.
